Information about PAOC Badminton Club

 

The PAOC Badminton Club was established in 1981 by a group of old scholars from Prince Alfred College in Adelaide. The club became affiliated with the South Australian Badminton Association and the Prince Alfred Old Collegians Association, and today has around 50 members. Membership is open to all interested players, including those who are not old scholars of the college.

The club aims to provide a place for all players to have a place to play & enjoy badminton whilst developing their skills in the game.
PAOC Badminton Club enters teams at all levels of junior and senior competition against other club based teams, whilst still maintaining a social aspect during its operating sessions.

Membership costs (for 2008) are:

SABA Adult Competition Member $50/Adult Social Member $20
SABA Junior/Student Competition Member : $35/ Junior League competition member $15


 

TOURNAMENTS

The Club runs two tournaments for its members in November each year.

Liz Ashforth Junior Singles Championship
Liz Ashforth is a Life Member of the club and former player and committee member. Liz's commitment to junior badminton led her to donate an annual trophy for a club junior championship.
The current club junior champion is Dominic Wong.

Brian Semple Mixed Doubles Championship
Brian Semple is a former member and supporter of the Club. For many years he managed South Australian state teams and also the Australian badminton team. This mixed doubles tournament is run on the "American" format, with partners drawn from a hat.
The current club mixed doubles champions are Winarto and Christine Birdsey .

SOCIAL EVENTS
The Club committee organises various social events for club members during the year. Previous events include Meal and Movie Nights, Bowling Nights, bus trip to the Barossa Valley, and the much-anticipated annual bus trip to the Southern Vales wineries.
